Biela noc (White night), Bratislava, SKOn Šafárikovo Square in the centre of Bratislava, four angular dormers protrude from the ground. Two staircases lead into the ground, secured by bars. This is one of the most unnoticed and ignored buildings in the city – the last functioning underground public toilets. This heritage of the communist era is in a state of decay. The distinct architectural style deserves to be appreciated and offers possibilities. The light installation makes this place visible and emphasises its character: the functionalist structure, geometric shapes and creative floor plan are brought to the attention. The constantly repeating 3-minute choreography of light, sound and smoke makes passers-by wonder what is going on underground behind the bars.
