From the series PLACES WE HAVE BEEN TO I.
The series emerged from research into places that have been decisive for my visual development and spatial perception. I reconstructed specific spaces from childhood memories: the Slovak panelák (Plattenbau) — the elevator and the dim space behind it, the back entrance of the apartment block — the concrete access stairs and the crawl space beneath them… These collective spaces were frequently explored, exploited, and interpreted by us as children. In my perception, these places extend beyond visible reality; they are connected to the world of imagination. The aesthetics of the environment — its minimalism, barrenness, and depersonalization — only reinforced this. The austerity of the architecture and its connection to the political system and prevailing ideologies of the time stand in contrast to the emotional, romantic atmosphere surrounding the experience of my childhood.
